In order to assess the possible significant impact of the NDP implementation on the environment and timely to prevent or decrease negative impact on environment related to the NDP implementation, strategic environmental impact assessment has been carried out. The environment report prepared as a result of the strategic assessment provides the information to public on the NDP implementation impact on environment and overview of recommendations for prevention or decrease of the negative impact.
Public discussion of the Environment report was opened on 20 March 2006 and lasted until 28 April. During the public discussion consultations with responsible State administration institutions, environmental non-governmental organizations and public in wide comprehension were arranged. A meeting of the public for discussion of the Environment report took place in Riga on 14 April 2006, at SIA Biznesa augstskola Turiba, Graudu Street 68.
After receiving comments of public and responsible institutions and preparation of the final reading of the NDP the Environment report has been respectively reviewed, supplemented and the final reading of the report has been submitted to the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government.
